A couple of summers ago I participated in an ocean swim event in Auckland that started at Narrow Neck beach and ended at Takapuna Beach. After the race, the tide was low, allowing me to walk back to the start along the beach. Overlooking this stunning piece of coastline are a number of multi-miliion dollar houses that are now precariously perched above eroding cliffs. It seems it is just a matter of time before coastal inundation will render these houses unoccupiable. Most of the houses would have once had private access to the beach via their own stairs. Now the stairs lie in a pile at the bottom of the cliff or hang in mid air.
